our history

For over twenty years, the vision of new ministry in Philadelphia’s Northeastern suburbs was upon the hearts of Mr. & Mrs. Michael Cardone, Sr. In July of 1990, a group of 24 people with a common burden for a new ministry met in a home to give birth to Christian Life Center. Six founding families covenanted in prayer and finances to birth Christian Life Center. Those charter members met many times and diligently prayed for guidance. God answered, and through a series of God-ordained appointments, Pastor Greg and Bonnie Cox and family took up the faith challenge and moved to Philadelphia from Chicago to lead this new church. Services soon began in Just-A-Farm Shopping Center in Huntingdon Valley.

In 1992, Pastor David Cawston and his wife Nancy came from a large, established church in San Jose, California, to lead Christian Life Center into its future. Pastor Cawston’s experience and anointed ministry quickly brought new zeal and excitement. Soon the continued growth demanded they begin two Sunday services.

With a vibrant, growing congregation of over 400 people, Christian Life Center moved into its newly remodeled facility in May, 1993. It was a tremendous time of rejoicing and praising God. Pastor Cawston’s vision and leadership, combined with the congregation’s commitment to reach people in the Philadelphia area with the gospel, continued to cause rapid growth.

By August of 1995, now meeting for three back-to-back Sunday services, Christian Life Center took another step in fulfilling its mission by moving the Sunday services to Bensalem High School.

Property for a new ministry facility location was purchased in the Spring of 1998. Strategically located at the corner of Richlieu and Galloway Roads in Bensalem, our ministry home provides the necessary facilities and resources to meet the challenges taking the Gospel to every home in the region.

In the summer of 2007 Pastor Cawston resigned as the Senior Pastor of Christian Life Center to return full-time into missions.  In September of that year, the congregation voted Del and Marvina Smith to be the new leaders of CLC.  Pastor Del came to Christian Life Center in January 2004 and served as the Executive Pastor until his election as Senior Pastor.

Many years after our church was birthed, we watch with amazement and awe at what God has done and continues to do. This is His church!
