My dash is defined as a journey towards an end to a mean. I hope to leave a mark that says “he cared enough to make a difference in someone’s life.” My desire is to touch those around me in a way that they may see the imprint of the hand of Jesus for a moment to understand that God is love!

Hey, Pastor Del, welcome to the “blogosphere”! I’m looking forward to reading it.
It is so profound how little time we have, the Bible talks about 77 years, thats only 77 winters, 77, Summers, 77, Springs, 77 Falls. It’s not alot of time. The Dash on our tombstone will represent that 77. It’s kinda humbling to realize what little time we have, and makes you ask, What do I want to be rememberd for? When I am Gone and the preacher preaches my funeral is he going to have to lie ? I believe we all need to live our lives, so that the preacher won’t have to lie at our funeral.
For those who enjoy poems, here is the “Dash Between the Dates”
I read of a man who stood to speak
At a funeral of a friend.
He referred to the dates on her tombstone
From the beginning… to the end.
He noted that first came her date of birth
And spoke the following date with tears,
But he said what mattered most of all
Was the dash between those years.
For that dash represents all the time
That she spent alive on earth…
And now only those who loved her
Know what that little line is worth.
For it matters not, how much we own
The cars…the house…the cash,
What matters most is how we live and love
And how we spend our dash.
So think about this long and hard…
Are there things you’d like to change?
For you never know how much time is left,
That can still be rearranged.
If we could just slow down enough
To consider what’s true and real,
And always try to understand
The way other people feel.
And be less quick to anger,
And show appreciation more
And love the people in our lives
Like we’ve never loved before.
If we treat each other with respect,

I’ve done things on my own in the past with little or no success/happiness in my life. Since becoming a member of CLC this past year and having a relationship with Jesus, I know with certainty that my best day’s and future are still to come thru christ my Lord. R.J.S
What Am I Here To Do?
A lover of Jesus for 40 years, A wife for 32 years, mother of 5, caretaker of 4 animals. With the daily routine of laundry, dishes, cooking, cleaning, picking up after all, grocery shopping…my life, others might consider mundane. However, those days, I take time to open His Word, to worship Him, to pray & seek His face…He takes my repetitive mundane tasks and brings refreshment to my soul, He restores my joy. For I know whatever my hands find to do…these are my acts service unto the Lord.
One Sunday morning the church bulletin read, “A place for me”. During my personal worship time I penned the words … “What is my part, Lord, you know my heart, a place for me, speak Lord, I’m listening.” Oh what joy to hear His small still voice… may I always be caught listening.

very good thinking of this. The order clearly shows your priorities in life which is a great thing to know. I see it enough in high school that many people do not know what they want in life or how to live it. Clearly, you do.

Interesting how there was no mention of why Peter and Ray were leaving us. Of all of the pastors to go, why was it the pastor in charge of counseling and the pastor in charge of the college ministry? It would have made more sense to see pastors in postions that could be filled by lay ministry people, like a care ministry and a small group ministry. It is amazing how the one is married to the person in charge of finances at the church. And speaking of the financial person, if the church is doing so bad financially, shouldn’t we look at the person in charge of running the church finances to find the problem?
Apparently people don’t listen, read, or pay attention…no wonder their lives are screwed up. Anywho…EVERYONE already knows why the two pastor’s were left us. It’s been communicated via, emails, letters, pulpit announcement, etc. Stay awake and you’ll hear. Also, I believe they did “look at the person running the church finaces to find the problem” and that person said what everyone already knows…people aren’t giving at the same level they did previously. Simple math! By the way, keep up the good work, Pastor Del! You rock!
I can so totally relate to this! I’m having a similar week, and I keep reminding myself that God has everything under control. It doesn’t necessarily change the feeling, but it give me perspective. It doesn’t necessarily make it easier to deal with, but it gives me the hope and the energy to keep on persisting.

This is a great story. Though I’ve heard stories like it before, it’s still wonderful and inspiring to hear again that there are people in the world with integrity.
I’d like to think that I’d do the same thing–and I believe that I would–but the truth is, until we’re actually in a situation that requires us to be honest and to exercise the integrity we believe we have, we won’t really know.
I’ve been tested in this in a number of different ways over the course of my walk with God. Some of the tests I’ve failed miserably, but some I’ve passed with flying colors. My prayer is not that I’ll never fail again, but that I’ll learn from my mistakes, and that as I grow in Christ the successes will begin to outnumber the failures.
Stories like this one help inspire me to keep trying. Thanks for sharing it.

Well this is intersting. Kinda Hostile too.PEople Give when God stirs them to give. LEts recap over the last few years. Too see whats wrong
1. Cawston comes up with the idea to build a youth building and says he will get it paid for. Did not happen church saddled with $1.6 million of debt (not biblical)
2. Rock Creek Church sponorship (AKA Jon Cawston) $2500.00 a month plus $2500.00 additional non missions. (It’s a family thing)
3. Cawston Resigns very long transition costing the church more than likely over $100,000
Now lets look at the leadership let’s start with the board, look at the makeup of the board, they are a bunch of YES men, no representation of the congregation, and held no accountability of the Senior Pastor. Also this church recylces the same board members over and over. So you get what you get,
Now lets go to the Church Leadership, again no accountability, all worried about their own jobs than doing the right thing. Did any one of these men follow the bible when it talks about having a problem with a brother? (Matthew 18:15-17) Did they do this??? Nope. So the entire leadership refused to hold a man accountable.
So before you blame the giving game, Ask yourself a Question “Did my new Senior Pastor Get a nice Raise?” Did the sheep go to the slaughter so he could propser? Before you blame, do your homework. Look at the leadership and dig and find out why God is not outpouring and why is it no matter how much we cut it is never enough. If you want to turn things around, all has to come out in the open. So Stop blaming the people in the congragation, and start dealing with the problem & demand real answers.
And here I thought it was the coffee!

Actually, I am constantly amazed at how vibrant Pastor Del sounds in front of hundreds each Sunday.
Whenever I have to speak in front of two or more people, I start to hyperventilate and my throat restricts to where I can only speak in short sentences.

Das, I think part of the mystery is wondering “am I really living/doing your will, Lord?” Nevertheless, God has a unique way of directing our steps…even when we may not be sure of the direction!

Thank you for the opportunity to speak yesterday. I know that God has plans for not only our small group ministry outreach, but for CLC in general. I am so glad you are the one to lead this congregation into the future. I thank God everyday for bringing me to a church like CLC.

I believe God made planet earth very very resilient, much more than people give Him credit.
The atmosphere is constantly scrubbed as massive weather systems circumnavigate the earth day and night.
Ultraviolet waves from the sun constantly sanitizes any particulates, good or bad, that we put on the ground, sea, or air.
Animals have the ability to adapt.
I believe God made the earth and its environment strong enough to endure as many generations as He has planned.
These are wonderful times for our church. Personally, I am thrilled to be a part of what is happening here.
I used to lead a Women’s Bible study on Tuesday mornings for years. Every Tuesday I would wake up feeling sick to my stomach. I am a trained teacher – but of little kids!!! Teaching adults is a whole other thing! It made me so nervous the thought of teaching God’s Word. Even though I had prayed for His guidance, studied the passages and was prepared, I still got the jitters. Truthfully, I was thankful for being nervous – it was a precious reminder that I could not do it on my own – that I had to rely on the Lord for the strength and ability and knowledge. SO I am glad to hear you suffer from this same malady, PAstor Del. I am glad you do not rely on yourself. I am glad you are open enough to show us your humanity. And I am excited to see where we are going on this journey with you.

Me too. I feel like God led me to a love-filled spirit-led church … and even though I am somewhat shy and not been deeply involved — it feels right.
My little grandkids like Sunday school, and they now pray out loud all the time, and ask questions about God … and I’m not sure if I am just imagining but they seem much more happy in their own skin.
And these three kids, 6, 4, and 2, have been thru a lot in their short little lives … and like me, they really needed to experience and learn the love of God.
One thing that always puzzles me is why people that have such a problem with the leadership and positions of Christian Life Center continue to attend if they’re so unhappy. There are plenty of other churches in the area that may be more in line with what they would like their church to be like. No one is forced to stay at CLC, so any of us can exercise our constitutional right to attend any church we would like. As for me, I’m very excited about the direction the church is going in because I believe that God will guide and work through Pastor Del to lead us into a more mature and personal relationship with God. It’s up to us to do our part also – to be receptive to the Holy Spirit and not allow the worldly concerns about day to day operations and divisiveness get in the way of our mission as a church to discover God, experience His power, and have a life-changing transformation in our lives.
I was very impressed with your presentation last night, Pastor Del. God has given you such a clear, deep vision of what he wants this church to become, and I believe he has put you here at exactly the right time to take us to the next level.
I’ve been involved in other organizations where the leadership has started out with flashy plans and strategies…only to watch them fizzle and fade as things drifted back to “business as usual.” One of the things I see in your outline is a depth that I really think can carry CLC forward. I want to encourage you to stick with it, keep your eyes on that summit, and go after what God has put on your heart.

Cut me a break, there is the problem, everyone is encourged to leave when there are problems. But don’t you see thats why churches remain the way they are and make excuse that “We don’t need to change, You need to leave” You see thats wrong, no one can argue that there are real problems at CLC, but yet I am facinated with the certain people of CLC, what I question those that rally around a man, where is your Loyalty placed? in a man (which is what I see) or is your Loyalty to God? you can’t have both, you see Loyalty leads to blindness, and thats what we already have to deal with, let’s stop the loyalty to men and let’s be loyal to God and his word.
You see a Blind person can not see the truth, hence when you read God’s word you can not see truth, be Loyal to God only and challenge your leaders, never take anything they say as truth, go back to God’s word and check it for yourself, if your leaders do not do this, all you will continue to do is repeat the same mistakes.
I was impacted by Donald Miller’s comment about the church offering folks a place at the table but never really accepting them as family. It helped me grow past simply accepting those who are different than me, and toward more meaningful relationships.
Ironically I read that chapter after I logged off last night…or this morning, whatever. I hate to admit it, but he’s right. The one place true community should be present, and more times than not, it isn’t.

Oh, how true this is. And I think it has relevance whether the things we “want” are good or bad for us–right or wrong.
What is important then, I suppose, is to reflect on whether the things we want are worth dying for.
Yes! I am very excited about God’s and your vision for our church and hope other people are just as excited. And now I know what to call myself— A Spirit Led Christian want-to-be.

You displayed it so well in your message and it was clear to anyone attending that morning where we are going. I have been around long enough to know that those who remain faithful to what God has for His body is never disappointed! As a relative newbie (about 1-year) at Christian Life Center, I feel accepted each week I attend. Then again, I want to be accepted. I want my family to be accepted.
My neighbor was kind enough to invite me to CLC about two years ago, and it felt right the very first time. (I am gonna invite my other neighbors.) Thank you God. Thank you Pastor Del.
I was excited to hear Pastor Del give his candid vision for Christian Life Center, and I totally identified when he spoke about some churches he attended in the past.
I don’t know about any of the ‘transition’ stuff at CLC. To me, this church seems to have the foundation, spiritual and otherwise, to make a difference in Lower Bucks.
Great people, beautiful location, and Pastor Del has a unique way of bringing out the powerful message in the Bible.
I agree with Claudia. Having been involved with this church for a very long time (15 years), I am so excited to see that the passion to experience God’s power is once again towards the forefront. I’m glad we’re going from a conversion mindset to encouraging all to get to know God more intimately, and seek His transformation in our lives. Many years ago God’s presence could be felt palpably during service. Unfortunately, that has seemed to have diminished over the last decade, but I believe that it is starting to be experienced again. Like you said, I want to leave CLC each time different, knowing that I encountered God during my time there. I, personally, am totally committed to the vision you articulated at the leadership conference and at the pulpit Sunday.
And for the record, I don’t need a laser light show, multi-media presentations on a jumbo-tron, or a best selling author on the pulpit. I’d rather keep my eyes firmly on God than be distracted by the bells and whistles all around me.
Consistency is important, but I have found something starteling, my son came home last Wed. from Youth and informed me that there will be a extra collection taken for Steve and his wife to celebrate their 3 years. OK help me here but arent they getting Paid???? Isn’t the Salary enough???? I find this a bit disturbng as Collections should not be taken because someone is doing their job. I guess next we will be taking collections every year to celebrate birthdays, anniverseries and what the heck, We woke up today, PRAISE THE LORD & PASS THE PLATE!!!!
I am willing to bet Pastor Steve’s salary (and others at CLC) is barely above the poverty line.
My impression is that CLC staff are totally dedicated to helping and saving people in our community — and that money is not their main motivation.
Steve seems to be on fire for Jesus Christ. I don’t think the salary (or lack of it) is his motivation.
Del or anyone else… just wanted to ask a question. This past Sunday in 1st service, someone spoke in tongues, the someone revealed or translated what was said… my question is was the translation from something in Psalms?

Joe, I can’t recall anything from Psalms, but that doesn’t mean there wasn’t…only means my mind isn’t as sharp as it used to be!
Many times when there are “Tongues” and “Interpretations” God will remind us of what He has already spoken to us in his word.
okay-so, when I got to your 2nd typo, I was beginning to get the message. Yeah, I focus so much sometimes on the fact that if I am not aware of where I slip, I won’t be cautious enough not to go there. So-my mind tends to stay in the dark areas & I can miss those opportunities I want to practice righteousness. SO busy trying to stop bad behavior that I forget to put my energy into doing what is right. It also gives you a poo-poo perspective on everything. May God fill us with His gentleness & keep us minded of His love & living in His grace. Psalm 18:35-36 (NKJV)

I am really looking forward to the next few Sunday’s when Pastor Del plans to talk about how to discern the Holy Spirit, and also about speaking in Tongues.
Those are two issues I could never rightly understand…
I’ve always been envious (for lack of a better word) of people who feel sure about the direction God wants them to take. I know that I don’t always delve into the Word of God for answers like I should, nor do I pray enough..
But I so want God’s Holy Spirit to wrap around my heart, and that of my family.
I can’t wait …
It was a real eye opener when Pastor Del explained the Trinity by likening God and His nature to water – with liquid, ice and steam all different aspects and functions, but all the same compound.
Never heard the Trinity explained that way before… and it is a powerful concept. It’s already becoming part of my thought process..
Good news! I’m gonna send this to my singles’ small group. We’re anticipating our upcoming seminar called “Avoiding Unhealthy Dating Relationships”. I know-you would think by our age, we would know how to pick the good fruit. But-hey, some of us are new at doing things God’s way & have a lot of disciplines to learn to restructure the foundations of a new life. It’s a little disappointing that all those good relationship-building books & seminars are targeted toward youth before they make mistakes & exclude the older ones who never had those opportunities & have already made them & have to start all over on a different level of maturity & experience. Somebody “go there”, will ya!!

I pray that those who are seeking will find Him first…here is a quote I have on my facebook that you may want to share with others in the search…”A woman’s heart should be so lost in God that a man needs to seek Him in order to find her.” (don’t know who said it…but could be applied for a man too!)
Great message today Pastor Del! I’m so glad that you are preaching on the Holy Spirit. I think so many believers (whether new or old) don’t understand it. My prayer is that the Holy Spirit speaks to them while you are trying to explain him!!

I always read it but don’t always have a reply. But this one deserves one from me at least.
I personaly like expository preaching (Verse by Verse) I’m at a point in my walk with the Lord that I need more of His work and less of my own or someone elses thoughts. That said There is a lot to be said for Topical preaching. Sometimes we need to get the whole
point at a glance. Sometimes the bible says something on a subject but a little here and a little there. ( Money and Gods love are just a few examples). Any way my point is that we need a little of both kinds of preaching. Sometimes we even to hear some FIRE and Brimstone.

Thanks for your message last night on the Holy Spirit. I disagree with you on the baptisim of the Holy Spirt, and here’s why. This is in no way to argue or debate with you or show any disrespect or to make you see it my way. Its just my interpetatation of it and I wanted to know what you thought.
In 1 Corn 12:13 it states (NKJV) ” For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body. I take the Word of God literally in most cases. And I think when he says we were ALL baptized into oine body that means all, I don’t think it means that who need to speak in tongues as a sign that you received the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Also the entire 12th chapter of 1 Corninthians talks about Unity in Diversity, if were were all gifted with tounges as a true sign of the baptism in the Spirt then we could not help the other members of the body? it say we are the body of Christ and members indivually 1 Corn 12:27. what do you think?

Last Sunday, I truly appreciated the message shared on the Holy Spirit. One word I would like for the Holy Spirit to do in my life is help me be, “prepared”. In my devotions I’ve been drawn to the signs of Jesus’ return. Could it be today? All seem to be in place, as we yearn for the Father to say when. I’m thankful that God’s mercies are new every morning…that comebacks are possible. Sunday morning was a comeback experience for me…once again, I laid it all bare before a Holy God, once again I confessed my iniquities and once again I’ve been given a clean slate. Praise Him!

Oh my gosh, can I related to the Procrastinators Creed. Sometimes I think it’s my perfectionist tendency – if I don’t think I can do it well enough, I put it off until I’m sure I can. I’m so grateful that God will meet us where we are, amd doesn’t wait until we’re “good enough.” That will never be since none of us are perfect.
“Well done thy good and faithful servant.” Seven words, I long to hear my heavenly Father say. Also, to see my Savior’s face, what a great reward. Better than any accolades, any trophy, any award achieved here on this Earth! However, I confess, our churches have an unquenchable thirst for recognition for their ’service unto the Lord’. Our service should be done in secret, with right motives and a pure heart. We should be placing others before ourselves, submitting to one another in love, and living in unity, instead we venture to gain that competitive edge – to win, not realizing the souls we wound along the way in our pursuit.
Twenty years ago, I heard a missionary share a message which ultimately brought me to my knees, crying out to the Lord, “Lord, give me a little portion of your heart, I need more of Your compassion.” I didn’t get what I bargained for, I thought he would give me this nice warm and fuzzy feeling – instead He broke my heart! What a great lesson, however, discovering His agape love – His sacrificial love, which requires that we serve others without, thought of self, a love that keeps giving no matter how much it hurts. I confess there are times I have fallen; I have been overwhelmed, with my back against the wall, enjoying an occasional pity party, sitting on the side lines while others accomplish great things for the Lord. Praise the Lord for His mercies, granting me another opportunity to confess my iniquities!
I’ve read in the scriptures, those who sow and those who reap share the same reward. Doesn’t sound like competition but a partnership, teamwork. Let us prepare His coming!

Almost didn’t attend last evening, as my stomach was doing cartwheels, however, entering in, finding a quiet place, leaving the world behind, was exactly what the Great Physician ordered.
The message was simple, but powerful; begin praying, pray without ceasing – 24/7, any where – any place, be honest with God, share your heart.
So glad the Holy Spirit kept prodding me to be there… time well spent! Once arriving, didn’t want to leave!
My spirit found all the actors attentive and sensitive to God’s agenda, allowing Him to take Center Stage. Hallelujah! It was as if we were experiencing Moses’ request of the Lord, “Show us your glory!”
All our prayers are coming to fruition, “Lord, bring revival!”

Pastor Del this should be a sermon, because I am still lost when it comes to the two.
Over the last several months I have been dealing with a lot of health issues. Many days when I get up I am in a lot of pain, which can last all day. I have to make a conscious choice every morning as to whether I am going to be thankful for all of God’s blessings or whether I am going to spend the day complaining. I admit I do not always make the right choice. But on the days I choose to count my blessings at the start of the day, things go so much better. I have a better outlook. I get the focus off of myself and my problems and look toward the Lord. It is amazing how that perspective of being thankful can change everything. Thank you for this reminder.

I planted a tree of forgiveness. I forgave my abusers from times past, offenders dedicated to building obstacles for my roots, & even myself for being barren in fruit-bearing. Once I got a little taste of what forgiveness yields to others, I thought "WOW-there's my chance to make up for all the failures of the past!" So–I adopted a new mission statement for my life: to find people who don't deserve it & go out of my way to show them mercy. Hopefully I can somehow share the depth of the love Christ has for me by giving it away with the greatest sacrifice & deepest love of my heart. Happy to have people love me, but excited to find those who cannot & FORGIVE them proactively whether the error is against me or someone I love or only to themselves. The Holy Spirit has taken me on full-time to show me how to dig deep roots & make BIG room for this tree to prosper & bear the best & sweetest fruit. I have a LOT to learn. BUT-I learned from Hannah Hurnard's Hinds Feet on High Places that "It is so happy to love" -a lesson learned from the waterfall where the water sings about "going low" in humble service to love freely. AMAZING BOOK! I HIGHLY recommend it to EVERYONE being discipled in the "Valley of Humiliation" being "Much Afraid", journeying with "Sorrow and Suffering" & coming out with "Grace and Glory".
Don’t forget to look around and see how the trees you planted over the past 20 years are tall and strong and healthy.
Daily Practice is intersting, but I want to ask something, why is the Christianity that CLC teaches only a skin deep christianity?
Confused? Let me help, Stage redone…. How much money did ya spend??? Oh yeah spandex, black curtains, and multi screens will get people to heaven.
Instead of trying to create what ever you are trying to create, why not spend that money on clothing the poor, and taking care of the Widows???? I think I read that in the bible someplace.
Or better yet, stop making God’s house like a movie theater, and teach the Word of God.
Jesus preached on mountain sides, and outdoors, and people listened, (very simple) you call yourselves followers, how about following
Stop wasting money we don’t have (according to the bullitine at least) and stop worrying about the surface crap, and get into the Word and teach people to grow in God’s word!!
How about a first step, teach your people to bring their bible and open it and see for them selves what is being taught. Stop worrying about screens, just teach not preach.
The only way for this church to become a true church is for the people to be taught God’s word, not your cute stories and your perception of the bible.
Get up there with no notes and stories crack open the word and read and explain and expound, if we want stories, we can watch TV or see a movie.
Stop with the Skin Deep Crap, and become a man of God, follow the best example, Jesus and teach the people, and truely impact lives!!!!
Ever want to see how effective you are, here is a challenge. Hold service out in the back field for 3 months, no sound, no stage, no lights, no chairs, just you and the Word of God let’s see how many people show up.. then you will see how few of your many are going to heaven and are commited to God and not the Center.

Teaching like it is 2008… Wow what a concept, let me ask you something, have we modernized the 10 commandments? Nope same rules, we can not keep a one of them.

Pastor Del, I thank God that He has chosen you to lead our congregation. The Holy Spirit is still among us, working through you to preach the Word of God, as evidenced by people coming to the altars every Sunday to receive Jesus as their personal Savior.
I believe that as a church we are ministering to the sick, clothing the poor, and taking care of the widows. I personally know of families who have been blessed by gift cards to grocery stores, visitations in hospitals by Pastors and care ministry workers, homemade shawls to hospice patients, Christmas gifts for the children of parents who have little money to buy them for their own children, and warm clothing to those in our community in their times of need. All of these things are coordinated through the Pastor
Chris and the Care Ministry of this church, utilizing not only the finances of the church but the time and talents lovingly given by members of this congregation.
If the first blogger was truly in the Word, I think he may want to reread Ephesians 4:15 which talks about speaking the truth in love (which I wouldn’t consider his posts to be doing – they seem more like angry rants to me), as well as how as we as a body grow more in Christ, with all gifts he blesses us with, are to grow and build itself in love. Under Pastor Del and the other pastors, this congregation is growing, maybe not in numbers, but in the enthusiam in worshipping, learning about, and in service to our Lord.
Finally, I wonder how much time this blogger volunteered – without expecting to receive any of the financial resources of this church – to help create a warmer yet more dynamic atmosphere in which to worship and learn about God. I can answer that – none. My husband and young sons spent 3-8 hour days here this past week, without any expectation of recognition or financial compensation, using their talents and willingness to serve God and His people, just as the Bible commands us to. Pastor Del, they have heard your preaching and have grown in their faith so that it is more than skin deep. As a wife, mother, and sister in Christ, I thank you and thank God for sending you to us.

I would just like to encourage you, and anyone else who gives their time, talents, and resources to do the Lord’s work. People grow at different rates and in different ways being reached by all sorts of presentation styles. As long as you’re following God’s leading and people are discovering God and growing in their relationship with Him, I think that’s what really matters in the end.
Why did you fire two pastors that were doing good?
Mike, If you were present during our All-Church Council meeting in March you will remember the financial report reflecting a deficit of over $210,000.00. I had stated during that meeting more layoffs would be forthcoming unless we saw a dramatic increase in weekly revenues.
Sadly, at that time we had no choice but to follow thru with those layoffs. Currently, however, we are beginning to see a slight increase in weekly giving…thank God.
But I thought the land accross the street was suppose to be sold to make up for th emoney deficit. We voted on it when we elected you our Senior pastor.
Unfortunately, the land sale hasn’t happened yet. As with all real estate, with the current state of the economy, it’s been a tough year.
Thanks for doing a great job leading our Church! I know it hasn’t been easy inheriting some of the mess from Pastor Cawston. I have been and will always keep you in prayer!!!

Another thought I need to be water baptized. But I am kinda scared to get in front of alot of folks. I hope that does not mean I am ashame of Jesus. I really Love Him.

Welcome back Del. Praying for you and your family.
It seems that anything we go through.. Finance, Faith, People, or any other issue’s. At the end of the day we only have God’s Word to turn too. It covers everything. Although I know we need to live by faith, man… I need God to stir me up and others. I need to be able to physically touch Him, or Him me. I need this life changing experience. I need this Hope. I need the Holy Ghost to fall upon me. I do believe I already have all this in me, yet at times I find myself questioning is it enough. I understand by Faith. But on the way to work, sometimes listening to the Word of God, the horrorable (did I spell that right), feeling comes over me, is God, Jesus, and the Holy Ghost real? And, when I think of that possibility, I feel physically ill, and heartbroken. So I say to God, I need to know. Help me. I then look around at the sky, trees, sun, moon, and stars, all of life and realize this all testifies of Him. Then still in the car on the way to work I praise and worship Him. Knowing I’ve been through this ride before, and probably will take it again.
It is so true that sometimes in life we need to re-forgive others! That is a challenge since the revenge message is a temporary satisfaction that the “world” delivers. On a side note the guest speaker yesterday was great! Its so important to keep the church focused during a crucial election. I pray for you and the staff during one more transition. God always prevails…
Forgiveness is important, as if we can not forgive others how can we expect to have God forgive us. but forgiveness does not mean you become a door mat.
Many times Forgiveness comes with also holding someone accountable for thier actions. this has to be kept always in mind. Becuase if we continue to allow the same behaviour to continue, then forgiveness does not fix the problem. I have found many times when you are wronged, that it is not the first time the person has done it.
So then accountability has to come in play.
Accountability is NOT revenge, but has to be done in a Godly way to break the cycle so that all can grow.
See scriptures Galatians 6:1-2 , Romans 14:12, Hebrews 10:24
I spent 1 decade working with a person who tried to get me written-up, fired, you name it… Then he/she got the position I was much more qualified for than he/she was due to political correctness and deceitful tongues voiced against me (Oh yes, My bosses too wanted me gone). Well, 3 more years and I was asked to help him/her. Thank God Allmighty for long since removing the root of bitterness inside me for I was happy to have him/her train me, and I showed it with my friendly, interested attitude. It turned out that even though he/she had apparently won whatever battle he/she was engaged in against me, that only my total destruction would satisfy him/her. Finally the Corporate leaders put the business needs first and he/she was gone. There is some residual hate towards me with other members of the Corporation in that I do not get 1/10th the support and training he/she did when he/she was promoted, and I have never gotten the raise he/she got, never got the title he/she got. I guess it’s OK to jepordize somebody’s future, health, home as long as they are not liked for irrational reasons. But, we live in a fallen world and I do not expect fairness or any sort of justice here. Only when I meet God and all the saints in heaven will I find rest. I really had forgiven the person, but they just wouldn’t have it. To be hated for ten years while those who claim to be authority figures stand by and laugh is painful, hurtful and rude. I have spoken this person’s name out loud in the congregation when the pastor asked us to name aloud those who we are praying for. I cried to the Lord to heal their hearts as had healed mine so many years ago. Praise the Lord Jesus’ name-Amen
I don’t believe you can make everyone happy. There will always be those who complain. They seem to love to complain. Staying focus on Jesus, is the only answer for me. Jesus know’s Best. So all I can say to those who love to criticize or complain (in the most loving way) Who are you??
Very true but the most important part to that scripture in order to be blessed you must also read on and follow it Matthew 5:13-14 13″You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men.
14″You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. 15Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.
You see in order to be blessed you must be the salt of the earth, the light to the world. If you are not these things, then verses 1 – 10 don’t apply. You see we must be christians to the world and following God’s word. It can’t be an act, you must be a light that all can see, you life must be salty and full of God’s word not just reading, but living.
Team work is important, but one thing to keep in mind is no matter who has what task, it does not matter, because it is God who makes it happen. Read 1Corinthians 3 5-15 It says
5What, after all, is Apollos? And what is Paul? Only servants, through whom you came to believe—as the Lord has assigned to each his task. 6I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God made it grow. 7So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow. 8The man who plants and the man who waters have one purpose, and each will be rewarded according to his own labor. 9For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, God’s building.
10By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as an expert builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should be careful how he builds. 11For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12If any man builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, 13his work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man’s work. 14If what he has built survives, he will receive his reward. 15If it is burned up, he will suffer loss; he himself will be saved, but only as one escaping through the flames.
The point to these verses, is, each one of us has a place that God has given us, but we would be foolish to think that our work is what is the end result. God is the one who makes it happen, not our work.
We must also ensure our humility, because if we allow ourselves to be fooled to think we are the cause of God’s action, then we are foolish.
Also we must keep in mind that yes we each have a place in God’s plan and we must ensure we fulfill God’s plan for our life, and each of us who has a job is a cog in a wheel, we are not judged as a wheel, we are judged as a cog.
So don’t worry about another person doing what God asked them to do, worry about what he asked you to do. And then do what he asked.
I think one reason we resist change so much is it is an unknown, a risk and thus, in many ways, scary. We feel comfortable and safe if things do not change. My hubby knows that I have to have time to process changes, so he brings it up and then gives me time to take it in before approaching me again. I think it is wise to give people time to embrace changes. I appreciated at the leadership meeting you saying we would take 18 months to 2 years to “change” at CLC. Too many changes are drastic and done too quickly in this world. To me taking time is wisdom. It gives people a chance to get used to the differences and to be able to get behind them. You have a great leadership style, Pastor.
While I agree change is important, but you have to ask yourself "What needs changing? & What does this do to effect my relationship with God?" You see there is no such thing as a traditioanl church and a contemorary church, there is but one church God's church. We need to keep that in the forefront.
Change is a wonderful thin in all of our lives, but there is one question we all need to ask before we change the question is "Does what I am getting ready to change have any eternal value?
You see if we focus on changes God wants us to make, we will see an amazing thing take place.

I WAS IN MARRIAGE CLASS LAST NIGHT & I LEARNED THAT OUR INABILITY TO OPEN TO ONE ANOTHER IS NOT B/C WE KNOW THEY ARE UNTRUSTWORTHY WITH SUCH TREASURES, BUT THAT WE ARE BENT ON WATCHING FOR SIN INSTEAD OF RIGHTEOUSNESS. PERHAPS OPENING UP TO SOMEONE IS MORE OF AN HONOR, A GIVING OF SELF IN LOVE INSTEAD OF A WORK OF OBLIGATION TO SOMEONE WHO IS GOOD ENOUGH TO DESERVE IT. B/C EVEN AT OUR BEST, WE ARE ALL FAULTY & UNTRUSTWORTHY OF SUCH A DEEP TREASURE. Not talking about it… I was wondering, isn’t the potential greater for keeping it bottled inside allow it to eat away at you and give Satan a foothold? Isn’t talking about the experience to those close to you help you be authentic and vulnerable?
I also hope you address in your message this week the fine line between being risking to be vulnerable and becoming a doormat.
I find it intersting you only chose the one verse in Pslams 73.
You see if you read the entire chapter, it is about letting it go and letting God. It is not about getting over it, it is about taking the struggles of being envious of the world and for how they get away with things (or so it seems)This chapter is about the struggle, but then the realization that you have a choice, you can desire what the world has to offer, or you can claim what God has to offer.
There is nothing wrong with talking about an issue, but the line get’s crossed when you are not talking but being envious of what happened, and allowing hurt turn to anger, then to resentment. This is where the line crosses and the hurt is now causing you to sin.
If you look at Pslam 73, you see the struggles and how resentment could easily start, but the realization is our God is God, and we can choose to hold on, or give it to God and allow him to deal with it how he sees fit.
In regards to Micheeles question, accountability is important. You are not a door mat, we should hold everyone to the standards of the bible, but before you do it you need to ask yourself, am I doing this with God’s heart and a heart of love to see a person grow from this hurt I feel, or am I angry and doing it with spite. Thats the difference you need to look at.
I encourage everyone to read Psalms chapter 73 and see what David was going through, it is quite remarkable.
If I truly trust in the Father. How could I possibly suffer as a doormat? What might be perceived as being a doormat to man, may very well be the Father at work in another. My heart shouts “Use me Lord”.
It doesn’t matter what anyone including ourselves perceive. Just what the Lord says, about us. If He says I’m this, I’m this. If He says I’m that. I’m that.
I’ve talked about my childhood hurts for almost 40yrs. I would hear, “let it out” “get it out”. Who get it out, me???? ME fix ME. Not going to happen.
How it happen for me is allowing Jesus in me more, and more. Starting in the morning, reading or listening to God’s Word. Staying in Prayer throughout the day. By putting more of God in me, the junk from my past starts emptying out. I can get this hurt out without talking about it.
Reminds me of the Glass of Water analogy I heard. Take a tall glass of dirt (dirt represents all the junk in your life that you’ve heard, seen, experienced (sin). Put it under a sink start running the water into it (Water represents the Word of God). After a while that dirt (sin) will start to go away. That dirt could also be all the hurt you’ve experienced in your life.

I really appreciated this morning’s message about vulnerability. I can so relate to what you said about being an only child. I admit that growing up as a “preacher’s kid” has made it very hard for me to connect with others in the church on a deep level. My experience was that church was not a safe place (oh the stories I could tell!). My intent is to send you a more thorough letter later in the week, but I wanted to mention my initial thoughts and tell you that I appreciate the way you are leading CLC.

I really can appreciate this Caution on Speaking without thinking. Especially after your message on vulnerability, If we choose to be vulnerable to the wrong people at the wrong time it can be disastrous. There is a time and a place for everything.

This is so true. It is so much easier to handle problems when I am not alone. But I ask myself, why is it so hard to ask for help when I need it? Is it my own pride, needing to appear strong and together? Is it because of being refused help in the past, told to tough it out, I can do it if I just try harder? Is it because I am so used to being the helper, that no one thinks I ever need help? Good food for thought, Pastor.
Ruthie on the money. I believe no one thinks I need help. Probably because I never ask. And, I always seem in control. I guess that’s the facad (did I spell that right), Pastor was talking about. Sometimes I feel if I want to get something done right, I better do it myself. Never giving others a chance. I feel if I don’t do it, it won’t be done right. I’ll fix it, I’ll do it, boy I got problems.
Interesting, but the main thing I do not see is “I go to church to Grow in God’s word and prepare my heart to share with others.
You see the list is a problem, it is all the surface items, and if one thing changes you have transitional growth and people go “Church shopping” so one church gets smaller and another get’s bigger.
People need to go to church for the right reasons, not programs and Doctrine or the Pastor, but go there to get in touch more so with God, and the through that thier life will change in amazing ways as they begin to walk the Path God has chosen for them.

Intersting Post, but the thing is, having lot's of money is not a bad thing, but if we look at what these men did with their money will reflect why they feel the way they do. Let's look at each person,

Here is the intersting thing, if we look at those whose lives changed other lives, thats real impact. But if we look at those who just made money and did nothing with it, there memory slowly fades away.
I mean walk up to a 21 year old person and ask them to name 1 song from Bob Dylin, or the Beatles and I am quite sure they would look at you clueless.
So in all of this, forget the money think about what Legacy God has for you. Even if you make an impact on one single person, thats your legacy.
We as Christians need to be about that One instead of the Manny.

I did not know this about Kay Arthur. I think she is one of the most gifted teacher of the Scriptures. The way she can get to the heart and meat of it. I certainly can relate to her experience of disappointment. I have to learn from her experience and always pray through to the place where I can give it all into God’s hands and plans(and leave it there, not constantly pull it back to myself).

I have to challenge you on something. Throught your blog you fill it books and stories of other people. But then you quote 1 scripture. How come?? The book of James Chapter 2 would have been perfect for this part you wanted to write about.
Please do not consider this an attack, just some constructive criticsm.
You see you and I as Pastors I believ it is more important to get people into the word of God than into stories of other folks.

ChurchofToday, you are obviously a very mature Christian.
But for people new to church, these factors will keep them in the fold long enough to understand the true value of the Word of God.
An unwelcoming congregation or a church that doesn’t minister to all family members (children, teens, adults) in a language each can understand (we don’t teach 6 year olds the way we teach 46 year olds)can’t accomplish their mission either.
Stilllearning, I would not call myself a mature christian, we are all children, but I do appreciate the compliment. I agree with you that teaching with the use of words needs to be diffferent, but the word of God is still the word of God.
If we look at churches as a whole, the list is just that a problem, if you go into churches and walk up to 25 people and ask them where did they go to church before, I will bet you 22 of the 25 will name another church within the local community.
People get hooked on the list, this is why churches go through transitional growth problems.
Picture this, if you had a church of 25 people, and the Pastor discipled you to share your faith, you would go out and share your faith and bring people to church to learn the same thing you learned, and so on and so on, what size would the church be after a year?
It would be huge, and it would not matter if anything on the list changed, the people would continue to do God’s calling.
We can teach children to do it to their own age group, Teens to do it to theirs, and adults to do it to theirs.
If you do this, you will have a church full of disciples, and very little transitional growth.
But Discipleship is the key, people are getting poured into from the Word of God.
A Healthy church is a church that is not full of transitioanl growth. A good book to read to understand this is Rick Warrens “Purpose Driven Church”
I agree a loving welcoming church is important, but you see if you have a church full of people out sharing the gift, the same gift given to them, there is no such thing as an unwelcoming church.
Having a safe place is a blessing. Because of all of the hurts, disappointments and rejections I have had in life, it is very hard for me to feel safe enough to really open up and share. I need to feel loved and accepted. In addition I think we all need to have people who really listen to what we have to share – not in a hurry or thinking about what they are going to say next. We all suffer hurts, cover it up and need a safe haven. Because of my personal experiences I think I am a better listener and more available to be caring of others.
I was a strong Christian, prayed daily, went to church and Loved Jesus then it happened. My Son was doing everything you taught them not to do, drinking, drugs staying out past curfew. Nothing worked, so I prayed “God please, I need your help and so does my Son. I hand him over to your loving hands”. One month later, Gary , my Son was killed by a hit and run accident. I was so disapointed! I asked God to take him in his hands not take him from me. I was in so much pain, I started with denial that lasted six months, then I cryed that lasted about three years, all the while still going to church, trying to take it in, nothing worked, my husband would read from the bible to me daily because I couldn’t through the tears. Then I started questioning God, “Lord I want justice. If I knew this person and saw them go through the court system, surly that would heal me. Then my nephew was murder and I watched my Sister “get Justice” It didn’t help. Then I cried out “Lord You didn’t let me say good bye”. One year later friends of ours lost their son and had to make the choice to turn off life support, and we were there to support them. I still didn’t get it, “Lord if you gave him to me as a vegetable it would be better than never seeing him again, I would have dedicated the rest of my days taking care of him, surly that would be better, then 8 months later I met a woman at work who is doing just that. I was still in search of the answer. I remember crying at Gary’s grave and it hit me God didn’t disapoint me every time I cried out for what I thought was best, he showed me why it was not what was best for me, I beleive that now, God helped me by taking the focus off of me and putting me in the lives of people to help them and in turn he healed me. I am going to celebrate Gary’s 30th birthday this October 30th thanking God and enjoying what I already have.
Moral of my story, be careful what you pray for, you might turn out better that before.

I am catching up today. I can relate to this blog. This has been a rough year for me medically speaking. Physically I am weaker, but spiritually I have been made stronger. In my trials, GOd has been made strong. I have turned to Him more. I have trusted Him more. I have gained strength from His presence in my aloneness. I have been able to have new compassion to reach out to others and offer encouragement and hope. GOd truly resurrects and empowers.

Great point, but as servants we must remeber, the act is the tool and not the final touch.
If the act is of true love, we must share the truth.
I know I used ti find myself focused and the doing good, which is great because they felt good, I felt good and things went on.
But we also must keep in mind why we are there, we are there to complete the job, and share Christ.
Remeber, the act does not get the person into heaven. We must always see it through and give them the choice.
If you can do the act, but can not share your faith, then why do the act? We must be willing to share our faith.
We must listen to that small voice from God and be willing to share when our heart is stired,
We also must have compassion for a dieing world and compassion for all people.
I think another aspect of wisdom related to this is to spend the remaining part of that one and only life looking ahead and not back.
Instead of regrets over the days, months, or years that weren’t lived to their fullest potential (and I think every one of us has those), plan on making the most of each day, press on toward making the next day better than the last, prepare for the days that aren’t, and persist through the inevitable trials and failures.
We should not focus on our regrets, but most important we must not forget what was learned.
If you made a mistake, admitted to it, worked through it, and remebered the lesson, and the next time you come to it again, you will know what to do.
But we must also remember to heed wisdom from God, and always turn to him for wisdom and guidance.
God will be the one who sees you through the day, you can not rely on yourself to persist through, but we must be connected to God Almighty, through him we will continue.
Spend time in the word of God, this is where you will find the answers.
But STOP, LISTEN, OBEY
Good word, I thought I would provide some crucial parts of the chapter of Timothy you quoted.
In order to live a Godly life, we must live a life of contentment.
We must learn to live by need and not by want.
A great example of what happens when you live by want, is our Country in the credit crisis. People have lived and spent by the WANT rather than by need. As the Bible says this will lead to destruction. an this is the termoil we are going through.

I like your posting, I think the most awesome lesson that comes from Philippians 2 is how we are to be like Christ, Here is the opening part of the chapter

If you continue to read on you will see how are lives should be modeled. But we must look at the BIG picture not just one piece of it, Jesus not only shared himself, he shared the truth.
Loveing someone is not just putting yourself in someone elses shoes, it is about putting yourself out there to truely love someone.
If you really have a brotherly love for someone, have you shared the truth with them, if you have not, ask yourself, do I really love my brother?

i thank God that i don’t have to “earn” my salvation that he paid for it in full! and i praise him that he validated me as one of his own that day.
On Sunday, when Pastor Del talked about insurance, and how it seems like ‘gambling,’ I felt like I was listening to the same rant I’ve been spouting for 30 years.
Each time I pay a premium, I feel like I’m placing a bet that something bad is gonna happen to me or my family.
Both ways I lose. If nothing happens, I lose the money.
If something bad happens and the insurance company (hopefully) pays the damages, well ….. it’s still bad.
With all of the medical situations I have faced during the past several months, this is a choice I have made every day. It is what has made this journey easier to bear. It is not easy letting God take control, but it is more than worth it. He is faithful and true and able to do more than I can ever dream or imagine. I praise Him daily for His mercy and grace.
Does God honor a death bed conversion?
That question has always stuck out in my mind especially when I see a situation where someone, an athiest perhaps, knows they are about to die and suddenly wants to make peace with Jesus Christ.
You have said yourself that God is the God of second chances…and third, and fourth and fifth chances. I personally think it boils down to the heart. If the desire to accept Christ is sincere, I don’t see why it wouldn’t be accepted.
I think in life there are many reasons people accept Christ. Some probably do so because of a crisis that wakes them up and makes them realize exactly how much they need God in their lives. If I am in a car accident and as a result decide to accept the Lord and follow him, does it matter whether I live for another 5 minutes or 50 years? It’s the decision that matters, and the work of the Holy Spirit prompting me to make that decision.
Or consider it the other way. If 5 minutes before my death is too late, then who’s to say that the decision I made at the age of 27 after years of denying God wasn’t also too late? As soon as you open the possibility that there is an absolute “too late,” I think you’re heading for legalism and limiting God’s grace.
God is the only one who can ever know the truth of anyone’s conversion, whether it happens at the age of 4 or with a person’s dying breath. Either way, I say, “Celebrate!”
We clearly should live as if each day or week will be our last. Far too often we are consumed with the urgent and don’t get to the important. When the pressures of life rise, we tend to put the unimportant things aside for the important. If we could truly live our lives as if we knew it was going to end in a week, I guessing most of us would have to admit that our schedules would be different.
As for the ‘death bed confession’ issue. The Bible clearly teaches that it is never too late to accept Christ. The Bible even contains an example of a death bed conversion. Luke 23:40-43 records the conversion of the thief on the cross who recognizes who Jesus really is.
It doesn’t seem fair to think that someone can live their entire life for themselves, and at the last moment, accept Christ and enjoy eternity in heaven. Life isn’t fair, and we should be glad that God, through His mercy, doesn’t give us what we deserve.
In Matt. 20:1-16 Jesus tells a parable that teaches us that, regardless of when you ‘agree to work for Him,’ the reward is the same – spending eternity with the God who loves us!
I’ve realized over the years that you truly can’t be grateful unless you are giving something away whether it be money, resources, or time. When we realize that others don’t have one or all of the latter we must truly be grateful and most of all being grateful for God’s Son Jesus who gave everything so that we could live.
Steve Lawson preached a sermon specifically about the foolishness of preaching at the Ligonier National Conference this year. I think I was the only AG member in attendance (grin), but it was held at an AG church! The sermon was geared toward expository preaching. He is an excellent expository preacher himself.
Totally besides the fact that you’re blogging about my alma mater and Joe Paterno (Go Lions!), I have to agree with you that Paterno’s commitment, determination, and integrity (not to mention his firm grasp of where college football fits into the big picture of life) have earned him my respect. He is a perfect example to those of us who have fallen and gotten back up to keep on going.
I think two things happened in the turn around that we can learn from. First, Paterno stuck to his values and his fundamental beliefs even with the pressure from outside to give them up. But at the same time, he proved that you’re never too old to learn and grow and adapt. The most amazing part is that he was able to grow in ways that didn’t compromise those core values.
There should be a date on the calendar someplace to honor Joe Paterno…. his compassion, faith and courage …
If we can have an Arbor Day or an Earth Day, which are inanimate things…. we can have a Paterno Day to celebrate his amazing life.
I am so glad Pastor Del blogged about this American icon. I met Paterno for a brief moment back in the 1970s when he was in Bucks County recruiting high school football players (linebackers if I recall) …
And again in the 90s when my son was at Penn State. He seemed so accessible… he would be around campus like a regular Joe.
He is so humble, not afraid to express his faith, or his political point of view …
There aren’t many people on this earth with a heart as big as Joe Paterno.
Not related to topic… Referring to Tithing.
My son recently said to me we are not under the Old Testament, but the New Testament. Which he says you give (Tithe) whatever, as long as you give it from your heart. So while on my way to work I thought about what he said. And, this is what I am going to share with him shortly… The Old Testament tells us what to tithe (10%) the New Testament tells us “How to do it” “Cheerfully”.

I used to go to a church in Atlanta, Georgia named Mount Paran Church of God. And every so often my pastor, David Cooper, would call the church a hospital on a hill. I’ve been an attender of CLC since 2004 and I would argue that CLC is hospital as well. I know for a fact that God’s healing work has been upon me numerous times through the people of CLC. Keep up God’s good work.
Just yesterday my neighbor and I were discussing the various reasons we/other people like their churches.I told her that I started attending CLC 5 years ago and the reason I like it is that whatever I’ve been going through that week or have wondered about that week somehow makes it into the sermon. This has been true especially onwednesday nights, regardless of who is teaching. Sometimes I think I’ve heard something from the Lord and it is confirmed when I go to church. So it was no surprise again yesterday that the teaching was about mending broken relationships and getting spiritual check-ups.I have been planning to have a 40-day fast for the 40 days preceeding my 40th birthday. I figured all numbers are important to the Lord but 40 is special and I’m truly happy to have lived this long. Anyway, Day one was today. The purpose of this fast was to take a close look (with the help of The Holy Spirit) at my last 40 years which have been mostly filled with lots of hurt and baggage resulting from broken relationships so I can prepare for the next 40 with a view to making the next 40 more God-filled. I came to church expecting God to tell me something regarding my plans and He did not disappoint. Most people prefer hotel food but I say no thanks. Hospital food is best.
Unfortuately, I believe this church is partially a hotel church. If you look at the different ministries and events, it’s usually the same people helping in each of them. It’s the 20-80 rule, 20% of the people doing 80% of the work. As a congregation, more people need to get out of the pews and into serving others, with whatever gift that God has bestowed upon them. If you look in the bulletin on any given Sunday, you will see a ministry needs help and it’s listed Sunday after Sunday after Sunday for weeks, if not months.
The other part of the church is a hospital church. The Holy Spirit is ministering to broken lives and working through Pastor Del in his sermons to touch the people who need to know that God is there for them. God will use other people to help minister to these hurting people, but only if the first set of people get involved to help make this church all that God intended His churches to be.
Thanks for this reminder. I have been having a hard time, in the busy-ness, feeling inspired. I need to make a journey back to the manger and remember that first Christmas and keep my focus there.

Finding the Christian Life Center…. and finding the redemptive uplifting power of Jesus Christ again after years of stubbornly chasing false hopes …. has brought me back to life and happiness.
Seeking God through the Bible and prayer has had such a calming, satisfying effect.
I just pray I can keep climbing the ladder.
After dedicating my life to following Jesus Christ, I am searching for what step to take next. What does God want me to do?
I pray every day. I pray with my family, especially the kids. I told friends of my dedication to worshiping God. (Actually I don’t have that many close friends)
I don’t want to be a stuck-on-Sunday Christian, and am trying to figure out the best way to grow.
All I know is that every service, the closer my car gets to Christian Life Center, the more excited my heart feels because deep down I know the message will energize my soul.
This morning I walked foreward when Pastor Del asked if anyone wanted to re-dedicate themselves to Christ.
My heart was pounding pretty good. I was so nervous, but I have to figure out what to do next. I guess praying in front of the stage at CLC is a good start.
I feel like God gave me a second chance, and I want everyone around me to get that same chance also….
Wow, this is what I needed to read and meditate on today. 08 has not been a really good year for Earl & I but we have grown closer to the Lord through it all. I realize that He has not left us nor forsaken us in anyway, even though it felt like it at times. How come the bible is not listed?
I think we all need to spend more time in God’s word. So many times we look to hear what we want to hear and, not hear what God wants us to hear.
there are a total of 66 different books right in the bible. 66, and each time you read them they are not rewritten, but God will speak to you in a different way.
I am not saying reading others ideas are bad, but rather, we need to ensure we are not seeking mans approval, or mans ear tickle, but yet god’s approval in our life.
The Bible is foundational to all we do and who we are. It hovers over the list; it stands alone. It’s self-explanatory.

You say it hovers over the list and is self-explanatory. But I have seen so many People begining to be consumed by books outside the 66 God wrote, that it begins to permiate in all areas of life.
I have seen People forsake their first love, by becoming consumed with mans ideas. Thats my caution, I see Pastors talk about everything but the word of God. I have seen them preach, tell stories, quote some writers and then quote 2 scriptures that they picked to fit their sermon.
This is not an attack on you, but only observations.
You can not say “The Bible is foundational to all we do and who we are”
You can say this for yourself only, not for anyone else as you can not control anyone but yourself.
We need to talk about God’s word more and man less, Mens writtings can not save anyone. time is short, there is much to be done.
By saying the Bible is foundational to all we do I meant at CLC. It is the focal point of every service, gathering, etc. I agree individually each person can be consumed with something other Scripture.

The first 10 minutes after I wake up is the worst, most overwhelming time of the day.
It is when all my anxieties and insecurities, past and present, flood my thoughts ….
It’s not until I pray, splash some warm water on my face, and sip some coffee (in that order, usually) that I feel ready to face the day.
Pastor Del on Sunday (Dec28) likewise said the first minutes of his day are sometimes filled with worry and anxious thoughts. It was like he was describing my experience.
We are often the hardest on ourselves. The other thought that your blog brought to mind is that I need to be better about going back and letting people know how they have helped, encouraged and ministered to me.
Pastor Del’s message about Gideon on Sunday prompted me to check into the origin of “Gideon’s Bible” and why are they in so many hotel rooms across America.
There is a great website that tells the entire story. Just Google ‘history of Gideon’s Bible’ and it is about the third or fourth site listed.
My goal is to read the Bible every day, even if only for five minutes.
Del, thanks for being brave and posting this list. I’m planning to do the same (and not just to jump on the bandwagon!).
I agree that it can be frightening to put things like this out there, but as I’ve found (and I’m sure you and others have also), there’s power in sharing goals like this. For one thing, when something gets out of your head and into public, it’s much more real. It also makes you accountable, even if it’s only informally. Now that you’ve put it out there that you’re going to run a half-marathon, you’re likely to have people asking you how the training is going. Hard to let it drop off your radar then!
You’re also going to get unsolicited reactions and advice. Like this: the item on your list that surprised me the most was starting on your doctorate, and only because it wasn’t something you’ve ever talked about. I’m proud of you for doing it, and will be praying for you to do phenomenally well!
Anyway, best of luck with your goals, and I hope you’ll look for my list soon, too!

Thank you for sharing some of your goals and making yourself transparent. I pray that in 2009 that God brings all of your goals to come to pass. You are a great Pastor and leader and we trully appreciate all that you are doing at CLC.
Last night’s service was so moving for me. It was so meant for me to be there. The songs…words… and prayers spoken have truly touched me. And I know that 2009 will be a great year for me. I was able to leave all of my baggage from 2008 on that altar last night. Thank you!
If everyone were to invite 20 neighbors to Christian Life Center in the coming months … we might just reach Pastor Del’s goal of 2,000 members this year.
That’s how I first came to Christian Life… when my neighbor invited me one Sunday about a year and a half ago. (ironically, he moved and I don’t see him there anymore)
There are some great info pamphlets describing CLC in wall boxes in hallways outside the Church sanctuary which are great for leaving on neighborhood doorsteps.
Whatever God has in store for me this year, I am already thankful.
Because I know me and my family will be better off with God in our lives than without.
Neat List a& Honest which is a good virtue. But I want to encourage you on something, be careful about wanting to grow CLC to over 2000. Please take the time to find out why it went below 2000 in the first place.
God is one who wants us to learn from our past mistakes, even if they are not our own.
Make sure you add to the church of not transitional growth, but of people coming to Christ for the very first time.
You had stated in your previous postings about the church "Churn" rate. This is you oppertunity to change that.
This is the time to build CLC people into disciples who are passionate about Jesus Christ, and passionate about not wanting to see their neighbors, friends, co workers go to hell.
This is the oppertunity to build disciples, not converts or church shoppers.

The punishment of the arrogance of the U.S.
“And with a claimed strong voice, saying,” Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great room and has become the den of demons and evil spirit throughout, and shelter for all unclean and hateful bird.
Because all nations have drunk the wine of the wrath of fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth have become rich through the abundance of her luxury. “(Revelation 18,2-3)
During these last several weeks have been negative news to shake the United States.
The material that caused the disaster Hurricane “Ike” in Texas, the collision of two trains occurred in Los Angeles where 10 people died, the financial crisis that is leading to bankruptcy for large companies like Leman Brothers and others, the crisis that still inmobibliaria endures, high inflation and mismanagement of course that President Bush has given the nation, all these things could be classed as “shock” the pride of the American people used to live in waste and wantonness.
And if they join the thousands who died from the attack on the twin towers, or more than a thousand people died from Hurricane Katrina, or the moral degradation that is coming to American society. All this evidence lugubre the scenario that today the United States.
The next president to be elected may not change much this negative reality.
But the Evangelical Church in the United States can not do something to change this, but even when these churches seem more concerned about their property and political alliances that change the poor spiritual reality in the United States.
This nation for many years has shown hostility to Latino immigrants who enter the country, and warfare with other Arab countries especially.
The administration of President Bush is leading the U.S. confrontation with the world, and probably also look to do with God.
The methods used by the anti-American government and also its people’s traditional generosity desdicen previously demonstrated the United States, but now seems to show much pride and arrogance.
Of course one can not generalize to all people.
However, the beating that this nation is experiencing both economic and climatic are a clear warning from God that the United States correcting their wrong policies that have for the world.
Otherwise it is likely that in a short time will get from the trial of God over this nation as it sobrevinieron to other countries such as China or Burma.
The true Christian churches in this country should check the distance in a very clear and with more strength to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ to avoid being influenced by the prevailing darkness in this nation. A dark and that is affecting many countries.
It is time we hear the voice from heaven speaks to our conscience by saying: “Come out of her, my people, so do not be partakers of her sins, and receive of her plagues, for her sins have reached to the sky, and God has remembered her iniquities. “(Revelation 18,4-5)
Americans are the most generous people in the world, perhaps in human history.
We are the first on the scene with help and the last to leave whenever tragedy strikes around the world, whether the victims like us or not. (at the cost of many American lives, by the way)
Far from being stuck in “prevailing darkness” America is mostly Christian nation yet we welcome people onto our shores from all over the world in hopes, I believe, that they will discover the truth.
America has immense military power, but seeks to destroy no one.
People of ALL faiths practice freely within our borders without fear of attack.
Anyone who obeys the law and has motivation can be successful.
Are we perfect? No.
But America is still the the “shining city on the hill” that is still the beacon of hope for billions of people.
Lastly, President Bush did not “cause” Hurricane Ike, or the LA train wreck, or any other disaster.
He is a God-fearing man who has openly professed his love for Jesus Christ. He did his best to keep all Americans safe, and for that we should thank God.
Forgiving people from things which happened in the past is truly one of the hardest things to do.
It takes a lot of prayer, an open heart, and willingness to take the first step.
It’s not easy.
Is forgiveness a conscious choice, a physical act involving the will, or is it a feeling, an emotional state of being? The Bible offers insight and answers to these and many more common questions about forgiveness. We’ll take a look at the most common questions and find out what the Bible says about forgiveness.
Is forgiveness a conscious choice, or an emotional state?
I believe forgiveness is a choice we make through a decision of our will, motivated by obedience to God and his command to forgive.
The Bible instructs us to forgive as the Lord forgave us:

How do we forgive when we don’t feel like it? How do we translate the decision to forgive into a change of heart?
We forgive by faith, out of obedience. Since forgiveness goes against our nature, we must forgive by faith, whether we feel like it or not. We must trust God to do the work in us that needs to be done so that the forgiveness will be complete.
I believe God honors our commitment to obey Him and our desire to please him when we choose to forgive. He completes the work in his time. We must continue to forgive (our job), by faith, until the work of forgiveness (the Lord’s job), is done in our hearts.

How will we know if we have truly forgiven?
We will know the work of forgiveness is complete when we experience the freedom that comes as a result. We are the ones who suffer most when we choose not to forgive. When we do forgive, the Lord sets our hearts free from the anger, bitterness, resentment and hurt that previously imprisoned us.
Most times, however, forgiveness is a slow process

Pastor Del read a remarkable poem in church two or three Sundays ago.
Anybody remember the name of that poem, and where it is published.
All I remember is the line about “all the ink in the ocean” but it was fairly long.

I just want to say that my thoughts are still churning with amazement and joy from Pastor Del’s sermon message on Sunday morning about ‘absolute truth’.
I listened to it again this morning on CD.
It is so very powerful, exactly what I needed to hear — especially with what’s going on in the national WashDC news this week.

Throughout the years I have tried to read through as many different Bible translations/interpretations as are available. I like some more than others. This year I am reading through The Message. SO far I am finding it very enjoyable reading. GOd says HIs Word will not return void and The more I read it the more it stays within my heart and trains my mind. I say no matter what version, just keep reading His Word!
The amazing thing is that as a Conservative Christian, the radio host must not trust in God. God allowed the people of America to put this man in office. It seems to me this concervative talk show host is really lacking in faith. Hoping he fails shows how small minded he/she really is. We must pray for our leaders and hope that God leads us in the right direction whether it’s the president of the United States, Governor of NJ, Pastor of CLC, or the new manager on our jobs.
I cannot say I was a negative as that announcer, but I was not feeling very positive. Then I read a blog by another pastor, Dan Scott, of Christ Church Nashville. He wrote “Yesterday, young Senator Obama became president of the United States. We are unsure of what sort of president he will become. He may become a wicked and despicable leader; he may become a godly and great leader. We all have our opinions but the story is not yet told. We have to wait. We have to pray. As Americans, none of us will benefit from him becoming a bad leader. As Christians, we are forbidden to anticipate that he will become bad. Rather, we are called to do all we can to help him become good.” That really was a wake up call for me. We are called to help President Obama to become good. WOW! That is the kind of attitude adjust we all need to make.
Most conservative Christians are happy and understand that people who previously felt oppressed and ashamed of America are now feeling patriotic and inspired because of Pres. Obama.
On the other hand, it is not hateful or anti-Obama for conservative Christians to strenuously oppose laws and decrees pushed by Pres. Obama which seem to fly in the face of Christ-centered beliefs and principals.
Opposing bad policies is not the same thing as hate.
I’ve prayed for Pres. Obama every day this week, asking God to give him direction and courage.
I find your blog intersting how you spoke about the New Age Movement.
I want to point something out, People with biblical undertsanding should not be the ones we are worried about, the best thing to do is to Share The Truth with the lost.
If you teach the bible and expound on it, then your sheep will be fed,
But the key is to teach the sheep to go out and share the gospel as we have been commanded.
We need to look at the truth here and identify a problem. the church has been asleep at the stick for a long time. Due to our lack of a fight and standing up for truth, and the weakness of our influence in society, society has done exactly what we expect.
This President will do some great harm to the Morals of America, and it already began with 2 issues in his first week, Abortion, and Stem Cell Research.
We should not so much worry about who he is or what he is, but rather the church standing up and holding this president accountable.
It is time for the church to be just that THE CHURCH, we need to raise our people up, build Bible taught Christians who are Christ Followers and do as Jesus did.
The comment is indicative of someone who hasn’t attended CLC for a few months!

Mr. Obama is the 44th sinner to be elected President of the United States. It profits us nothing to put our hope in a man, unless that man is Christ who is also God.
It is too easy in this country to see the government as an arm of the church, but the true church is concerned with a different kingdom. Some have taken this to mean that Christians should not be involved in politics which I find foolish. But neither should we wring our hands when we have leaders who make ungodly decisions. Are we less in need of a Savior than they?
The Bible calls on us to pray for our leaders, and this in the context of the debauched empire of Rome. John the Baptist lost his head preaching righteousness to Herod which leads me to believe that we need to declare righteousness to our leaders.
But to wring our hands and lose hope because of any governmental leader is NOT an option.
That’s my two cents. You can keep the change
Is a newer NIV any different than an older NIV Bible?
I found an NIV Bible that looks like it was published in 1972 or 1973 …
… and am wondering if there are any translation updates or differences in a 2009 version.

But the intersting this about this, preaching does nothing without the Holy spirit. you can break the heart, or provoke a thought, but the real success is what the people retained and put into action.
A successful sermon, is not one that provoked new converts, but to see people week after week sharing the message of the good news that they heard, with others.
A successful teaching is you see growth added to the spiritual church and disciples being formed, new people are coming to God and begin the process again.
To be a successful teacher, you want to spark the constant circle, you teach others, they take the information, teach others, those people do it so on and so on. Thats what a true teaching will do
I believe it was Michael Horton of The White Horse Inn who quoted William Willimon’s advice to his seminary students. Willoman told his students that before they leave the study with their finished sermon they are to ask themselves, “Did Jesus have to die for my sermon to be true?”

hmmmm, let’s see, i think i’m learning this lesson with my kids! it’s hard but i’m learning to forgive instead of casting judgement on them each time.
Forgiveness is a part of the process.
But if your brother sins against you 7 times in a day, what do you do about it to help stop the cycle?
Accountability is a key. Because if you allow a brother to continue to sin and you see this, and you do nothing you are just as guilty in supporting it.
In order for us to be true Christ followers we have to be willing to be held accountable, and we have to be willing to do the same for others.
Remember to show you are a true Christ Follower you must WALK IT
This is intersting, but one other thing you need to look for is how many bodies has this person left on the battlefield. Many times the “Get it done” folks can do more damage because they mow people over.
I have seen this many times because these people can be about power and influence and not about the cause

Speaking of history, why do we worship God on Sunday’s rather than Saturday’s?
There is a pastor on TV, Doug
Batchelor, from Michigan I think, who makes a very compelling case that Saturday should be the Christian ‘Sabbath’ day.
The subject also came up in Small Group last week.
I think this is intersting, but the key to your story is sacrifice. you see the rock bands folks live the life the world sold them.
But the familiy they ran into sacrificed the world to be content and enjoy life. You see the devils best trick is to make you BUSY. It is amazing how much dust we create, but all that does is create a smoke screen.
Matthew 16:24 is not about convienance, but about sacrifice. In order to follow God, we have to give up the ways of the world.
If God has poured blessing upon you, what are you doing with those blessings?
You see God wants you to be content in Him, if your life is so full of activities, events, and what ever else, you are missing out on a great thing, contentment, and that takes work.
I encourage you to focus on God, and what he has for you, don’t try and add to it, be content with the things of the lord and stay out of the rat race, This is the race that causes Sin.
The best way to remeber God’s great works is to spend time in his Word. Thats the history, thats the documented events.
We need to spend as much time in that book, because this way we don’t have to remeber, it was already written down for us to read, enjoy, and learn God’s great love for us.
In regards to worship God, why is we only formally do it once a week? Why not everyday?
If we take the time to ask, is what I am doing brining glory to God?
You see everything we do, if we do it with the right spirit in our heart and soul and mind, we are giving Worship to our King. Singing is only one form of Worship.
To be a servant, lets look at the job discription of a servant
Servant: one that serves others; one that performs duties about the person or home of a master or personal employer.
You see everything we do must be of service unto God.
A Servant has to have Humility, Honor, Caring, and Love for not himself, but for others.
If you want to follow the best example, Jesus Christ was a true servant. If you read the whole chapeter spoken here, I encourage you to read it in the Message Translation as it speaks about Christ and what he did as the Servant.
The sermon at Wednesday night’s prayer meeting was really uplifting … and exactly what I needed.
It is liberating and overwhelming at the same time, thinking that God is aware of every thought and action every minute of the day and night.
One of the hardest things for me as a Christian is to tell the difference between my own thoughts and desires … and the guidance of God.
I pray God helps me get to the point where I can ask every day “Jesus live through me” … and really follow through.
I needed to read this today. I have been feeling a bit discouraged about trying to deal with my medical issues. As usual, I need to let GOd help me handle things because He is a lot better at it than I am. I am going to keep a copy of this scripture and list where I can read it every day. Thanks, Pastor Del

It’s a good way to get to know pastors better, it says.
The writer of that Christian Science Moniter article – Michael Spencer – seems overly hung up on assigning labels … and focusing on the process of church rather than regeneration power of the Bible.
He seems to believe that faithful Christians are living and working and worshiping in a spiritual vaccuum, and will just jump ship a the slightest push from secular America.
I had to stop reading the article. I was getting depressed.

I mean think about this, if these numbers are true, well we can have 100% slavation rate in America, all we need is to have that miullions lead one person to Christ and we will have a 100% Salvation rate.

Turning to Google instead of God
The duty to one’s neighbor is a fundamental belief in most religions. It would seem natural that more people would turn to their church, mosque or synagogue for community in tough times.
But don’t expect a shaky economy to lead to a national religious awakening, said Nancy Dallavalle, chairwoman of the Department of Religious Studies at Fairfield University in Fairfield, Connecticut.
While individual communities of worship may see some uptick in their numbers, Dallavalle said, fewer Americans depend on traditional religion for support.
Some studies reinforce her point. According to the American Religious Identification Survey, almost all religious denominations have lost members since 1990. Membership in mainline Protestant denominations has fallen for the past 30 years and has been widely documented.
Dallavalle says most Americans will turn to pop culture rather than the church for inspiration.The infomercial that promises wealth or the reality TV makeover show — more Americans will look at these for inspiration, she said.
The Internet also siphons people away from traditional religious communities during tough times, she said. Americans who have grown up outside organized religion prefer to get their inspiration through the Internet: online motivational tracts, inspirational speakers and self-help gurus.
“Folks might not turn to God as much as they turn to Google,” she said.

This blog you wrote really helped me this morning. I am really struggling lately and needed something this morning to shed a little hope into my future and remind me again who our maker is. I will admit my devotion to my faith has been quite bad lately. As you wrote it has been a really dark winter and my soul is feeling it.
I just wanted to thank you for shedding some hope and a little light on my dark soul.
Often times, when Jesus would heal someone of disease, he would warn them not to tell anyone. (Mark 1:44, Mark 7:36)
Why would he ask them to not proclaim their healing? It’s counter intuitive.
I have seen a marked change in my wife’s attitude – especially since she turned her life over to Jesus. Her thoughts used to be polluted and so was her life. Now our relationship, her attitude, and her relationships at work and with her family are so pleasant now because she turns to God at every moment she needs to.
Thoughts do manifest themselves, and I have seen it. People think themselves sick all the time, too. Norman Vincent Peale wrote “The Power of Positive Thinking” and Napoleon Hill wrote “Think and Grow Rich.” Both of those men knew what they were talking about.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and insights in the blog. I visited the church for the first time this past Sunday. I intend to return in two or three weeks with my daughter. We are in the process of seeking God on His direction for us for a church. Perhaps at the end of this process we will return to our current church or He will send us to a another mission. I have listed 4 churches we intend to visit over the next month.
I especially enjoyed the Psalm 69:3 reference this morning. I am encouraged and a bit excited to know that God has a plan and we are actively seeking a change within His will. I know his direction will hold growth and this is welcome as now “parched” is all to familiar. I spirit is expecting good things and my Faith is a witness to that Truth.

Shouldn’t having faith that God will do great things with your life be enough to give you good feelings?
When I focus on the bold and powerful message of Jesus Christ, my brain doesn’t have time to get down. Not much, anyway.
I feel energized, because I feel like I’m seeking the will of God.
I still have problems. Lots. But I just don’t dwell on them.
My boys have been learning this great verse in Pastor Aaron’s class on Sundays through music and it’s Phillippians 4:8…Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable–if anything is excellent or praiseworthy–think about such things.
I’ve realized more and more that dwelling on what is not good in my life doesn’t do any good! This was a great visual for me: I was walking along and noticed a neighbors lush lawn and thought…wow that lawn looks awesome! I remembered something my dad said about caring for his lawn. He said that he was trying to deal with all the weeds until finally he said he was just going to stop dealing with the weeds and start over-seeding until the good grass just took over the weeds! It was great spiritual lesson about dwelling on what is good like Phil. 4:8 instructs us to.
Pastor Del-I can not tell you how much I have enjoyed CLC. From the moment I sat down I felt at home. As a music lover I was overwhelmed with the band and choir. So much that I have been singing in the choir for about two months now. How blessed we are to have Pastor Steve. His musical abilities blow me away. But more importantly your words touch my heart every week. I can hear and see the love of CHRIST in you. I want to become a member and also to be baptized. I did fill that out one of the cards we turn in. We are so very blessed to have you. Keep up the good work that GOD has sent you to do. I know that HE is proud of you. Saw on one of the TV documentaries that the radio operator on one of the ships close by the sinking Titanic had purposely switched off their radio due to getting what they felt was a rude message earlier in the evening from the Titanic radio operator.

I would encourage everyone to walk thru your neighborhoods some evening this week, and drop a dozen or so Christian Life Center promo info cards on doorsteps …. with a one-sentence hand-written note inviting people to church this Sunday.
Perhaps we can have an ‘Invite-a-neighbor-to-church-week’.
Many people know deep down inside they should be seeking God …. but they are shy and just waiting for someone to invite them.
I noticed that even if someone doesn’t immediately accept, they usually seem thankful that you at least cared enough to ask.
So true Pastor Del! I grew up in the church and although I knew that everyone loved God with all their heart the traditional aspects were very important. I don’t want to say we were ritualistic but not open to new ways of spreading the gospel. In the society we live in we must be able to reach those around us by whatever means necessary. I love this verse in 1 Corinthians 9:22 NIV

Amen, Pator Del! Thank you it is so easy for us to get caught up in daily trials & tribulations. I can feel Gods presence around me keeping me strong.
I wanted to thank you Pastor Del for being sensitive to the Spirit’s leading by praying over those who have lost jobs or are in the process of looking for one now. And the verse you used, Psalm 37:25, has been one that I have been meditating on a lot lately due to our own circumstances. Just the day before I was sharing that same verse with my girlfriend and how it’s encouraged me. I’m always amazed at how God continues to encourage us through His word to us by allowing others, such as yourself, to give the Word as encouragement to others. It’s as if He’s saying, “it’s okay, I hear your prayers, I know your needs, I will provide”. We are trusting God for the next step…that’s all we can do!
Unfortunately, this is the society we live in today. Instead of going to their neighbor’s house and trying to fix the problem “the old fashion way,” the “offended” neighbor simply calls the police and complains about disturbing the peace.
It’s a sad reality in our country now that people feel so detached from each other that they only feel police response is the proper course of action to settle any and all disputes. Take for example the woman a few months ago who called the police because McDonald’s was out of Chicken Nuggets, resulting in mass confusion of policy with a new cashier. Instead of speaking to a manager, she called the police multiple times.
It really is a sad reflection on the times when the only way to get the city to back down is the response of citizens who are right.

WOW! I haven’t read your blog in quite a while b/c I’m going through all this stuff you’re writing about — BUT, it seems I’m learning the same thing in my walk with God. He is stabilizing a steadfastness in me that feels like it’s rooting in my soul. It’s a messy project on the inside, but SUCH PEACE! Yeah – everything is topsy-turvy and some things outright upside-down, but somehow my JOY remains. I feel a strength and determination I’ve never known before & am HOLDING or CLINGING tightly to the Lord. I AM CHOOSING JOY!! I’m beginning to think that nothing is as difficult or painful when I walk the road with God’s hand in mine and TRUST that He won’t let go!! Life is hard – but, with Jesus – easy street!
I trust in the Lord too — but Pastor Del — come on — a good government????????? Right now our government is on the brink of disaster. The real sad part is that I don’t see too many of my fellow Christian friends standing up for what is right and it sickens me.
One of the things I so love about Jesus Christ is how he boldly and courageously spoke out against the religious and political tyrants of His day …. and through his word – those of today.
With corrective love, Jesus was bold and fearless.
I find it absolutely amazing that Harrison Tyler – the grandson of John Tyler, the 10th American President (1841-1845) is alive and well. (not the great great grandson… but grandson)
Harrison Tyler (a chemical engineer who currently works at Virginia Tech) was born in the 1930s to President John Tyler’s son Lyon Tyler … who was 75 when he fathered baby Harrison.

I am about a week late in writing this, but since our brief conversation after service two Sundays ago, I am following your suggestion.
Del, I am/was a Commercial Banker by trade, and have been recognized as being successful at it( or so I thought).. I took a position with a start up bank about 2 yrs ago, and we were doing terrific. Then within 3 months we were bought by another small bank, leaving no need for the double management and all of our executives were let go including me. That was October 08. I am still out of work and really haven’t had more than 2 viable opportunities. With the large family that we have its very unsettleing to say the least.
About 7 years ago I got into the thoproughbred racing industry as a small time owner, and the passion I’ve had for the sport since I was a little boy has grown substancially. When other kids were reading more common magazines and periodics in school, I was reading “The Bloodhorse” and “Thoroughbred Times”. I am plugged into the Industry and in fact my oldest son lives in Lexington ky, The thoroughbred capital of the world, attends UK and works as an assistant trainer for a well known trainer.
I have dreamed of making the thoroughbred industry my career for years and thought this might be the time to get something going, since the banking thing was moving at a pace a snail would laugh at. I have had a business plan in place for about 2 years and just needed the financing.
At the start of your service two weeks ago when you asked any and all to come up and receive prayer who were out of work or were looking to change jobs, I did. It was the first time I accepted prayer for this business outside of my home. My evil pride would not allow me. However the presence of GOD was so strong in the church that morning I had no choice but to surrender and go to the alter.
Well, within two days a very successful and world known breeding farm in Lexington (who I sent the plan to months ago)contacted me and said they would not only assist me but would invest half the money necessary. I also had a meeting a day later with another investor and he agreed to put up about 20%. So within one week I have the backing of this wonderful farm and about 70% of the money needed!! I am no longer too proud to ask for prayer and hope you will continue to pray for me as I will for you.

It is funny that our money says : In God we Trust” and when you go to court you swear upon the Bible and government does not debate this. However it is ridiculous that you can not say a prayer for the people that need prayer the most… It is ironic that everything that is happening int he world today is written right in the Bible for us to read and people choose to ignore it. Jesus is the only one who will get his children through rough times you would think any politician would see that and look to him to help them and not deter others from speaking his name.. What is this world coming to when you offend some one by using the word Jesus.. Maybe if more people stopped having too much to say about what is politicaly correct and started focusing on what is correct ( following the Lord) they wouldn’t be so consumed by their own demons..

I appreciated your message on Sunday about defining the Vision that God has given you and pursuing the fulfillment of that Vision. I am always challenged and inspired by your messages. Thank you for extending God’s Grace and Mercy to me and others. I have had a recurring Vision in that Christian Life Center is Like a Glowing Lighthouse surrounded by a black sea of people sinking in waves of despair. When God’s Glory falls with Power on CLC the Light of God will draw the people out of the Sea of darkness.
I would like to explain this vision in more detail but not on a blog site.

You speak of churches, But the book of Acts does not talk about todays Physical church, Acts is about THE CHURCH. You see we spend so much of our time and resources on the Physical Church, and we spend alot of time building the Physical church, we ignore building THE CHURCH. Jesus even said in the book of Matthew “Upon this Rock, I Will Build My Church” Jesus did not refer to what we all church, he was refering to HIS CHURCH.
The reason todays physical churches are shrinking an dieing, is simple.They have moved away from the Gospel, and defied God’s word, thy have gone after glitz and glammer and focus on the glitz and glamour, rather than the lost in their community.
Wanna know how effective Pastors are? Ask them who in their daily life outside of thier church people have they led to Christ? How do they invest their time, do they spend the day in their office, or are they out in their community helping the lost?
You see we do not need buildings, PA systems, Lights Glitz or Glamour, People speak much louder when they in numbers following the calling of God

You are correct on the surrender part, BUT thats only the first part. You can surrender lots of things, but you also must begin the work to change.
In the book of Luke, Jesus says pick up your cross and follow me.
Jesus Christ is the guide for those of us who wish to be his disciples. What he teaches us is to shoulder whatever is happening in our lives as symbolized by the cross and move forward courageously carrying, but not excessively distracted by, that cross.
Each of us has a somewhat different cross to bear. Some of us are carrying illnesses on our cross, or loneliness, or family worries on our cross. Some of us carry fear on that cross, while others of us carry pride. Sometimes there’s judgment on our cross, self-judgment about something in our own lives or judgment of others because of who they are or what they have done. What Jesus was teaching us is not to let our crosses prevent us from moving on in our lives. We are not to let our crosses stop us from living or stop us from growing spiritually. In fact, there are actually times when our crosses once redeemed can become the source of God’s grace in our lives and/or
in the lives of others.
So DON’t just surrender, begin the process of a wonderful journey as God uses you and changes you, but YOU have to be willing to do the WORK!

Something you said in there, kinda caught my attention. you made the comment “A church” something I have discovered is we spend alot of time as denominations, religions or what ever building “A church”
If christians spent less time building or forming “A church” and spend their time building “The church” then we would not have time to worry about much else.
Jesus said in Matthew 16: 17-18 17 Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven. 18And I tell you that you are Peter,[b] and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades[c] will not overcome it”
You see there is only one church, this is what we must model ourselves after, and follow the commands of Christ, and to also do our job and fulfill the Great Commision
Matthew 28:16-20 16Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in[a] the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
We have 2 responsabilities as Christ followers, Evangelism and discipleship. If you are not doing these you are not building “The Church” but you might be building “A church”
Members of “The Church” are going to be with the Father in heaven. Members of “A church” does not offer the same gaurentee.
Think about what membership you have? Compare it to the Word of God and how do you line up?
“A” church, “The” church…matter of semantics. God builds “the” church (globally) while He leads you in building “a” church (locally).
How come we spend so much of our resorces on a church? You see I am doing a study for a class and what I have come to discover is something very sad when it comes to local churches in this country.
Here is the Physical church
Local churches consume millions and millions of dollars, but for what?
They carry a boat load of debt which is a sin (I used my coarse note from Crown)
Operations vs. Ministry .20 cents of every dollar actually goes into community ministry. (Pastor salaries don’t count)
Pastors don’t leave the 99 and go after the one who left.
80% of money goes into running a building. Calcualte how much tithe money goes to paying a bank interest it is staggering
And still there is not enough according to 50 churches I researched.
How can you say there is not 2 different churches? This is God’s design for the church?
In the book of Amos God speaks about some things he was sick of with Israel read the message translation start with chapter 5, if he was sick of these things with Israel, I am sure it also applies to the Physical church
If the Physical church represents the Spiritual church we have alot of problems, which is why in the Prophecy we have a GREAT falling away.
Del, there are many who have left the Physical church and fallen away because of actions of the physical church.. The Physical church has more lost bodies left for dead.
Is this God’s church? With all this and no one saying “Enough” We have sinned against God confess the sin, and now lets repent and follow God.
I just don’t see that happening because churches are worried that the mortgage won’t get paid, and moral might be hindered, yet Physical church pastors bury the sin and preach the Gospel and tell people to live right.
How can this be? How does this make sense? If God’ is who you say he is, then the Physical church needs to be the first to actually confess the sin, go through the reprocussions and allow God to restore the church to his standards .
Is the Physical church doubling in size every year? Or is it constantly shrinking? If it is shrinking, where did evryone go?
I am not knocking anyone, but am I wrong in my thinking? From what Pastors have taught me about God and the Gospel? Help me to understand.

Thank you for making the point so clear on Sunday, that all we have is not really…all we have…but What God has trusted us to hold. It might be our money, our jobs, our children. I have seen the things we hold so dearly can be taken away from us in a moment.
I have resolved to not give God only my first fruits, but to stretch my faith and give him double the portion. I dont do this expecting things to come back pressed down, overflowing, more than I can imagine, but expecting that God will use my faith to bless others, and if God has any crumbs to spare, that he will sustain me, and strengthen my faith.

I listen to your message on Sunday and i wanted to know at the end of the parable of the 10 talents (Matt 25:30) when it says the unprovitable servant will be cast out into outer darkness and weeping and gnashing of teeth, is that refering to hell in your understanding?
Mark, yes…I’d believe Jesus is referring to hell in that passage.
So based on your response, does that mean if we don’t use our talents/gifts to the best of our ability God will send us to hell?
I wouldn’t necessarily come to that conclusion. What sends people to hell is not surrendering/committing their hearts to Jesus. Jesus referred to the man in the parable as “that wicked servant.” So, apparently there was more wrong than his refusal to give, etc. My point Sunday was how we handle what we’ve got now is going to determine what we receive in God’s Kingdom…not necessarily keep us OUT of God’s kingdom.

How true! I too was raised in the church and it wasn’t a program that kept me. It was that relationship with Christ and others in the church!
Many teens, like myself, fell off a spiritual cliff …
It’s a long climb back up. Many don’t make it. Many do.
I think John and Del we take a look at the generational Gap. For you and myself we grew up in youth ministry that yes had some programs, but was not surrounded by Programs.
If we look at youth Ministry today, where is the time and money spent? It is sunk into glitz and Glamour. you see we have become a generation that has come to believe that we need to have, lights, video, games and keep investing in to them over and over and over.
But we have bought societys lie that we have to have these things. But yet, we have no investment personally into people.
Most of the people I grew up with in youth group, are today still in the church to this day and we had 1 retreat per year and weekly sunday school and sunday night youth ministry. Each one of us are still serving God.
But why is that? We did not have lights glamour and glitz, we had a Pastor who was a shepard, who loved us, taught us respect, taught us the gospel, and when trouble loomed they were there. It was the act of pouring into all our lives just as Jesus did with his 12.
Want to have an impactful Ministry?
Matthew Barnnet Senior Pastor of the LA Dream Center made a profound statement to ministry leaders. He told them that he wanted them to see how successful they really were. He told them to not use any of the tools they used in their ministry (food, Trucks, Music, Lights, Sound) but to go out and teach the people and see how many show up and stay.
You see today we hide behind our tools, If you really want to measure your success in sharing the Gospel, take away the tools for 1 month and see who stays.
Also look at where the youth Pastor spends his or her time? Are they in the office all the time? Or are they in the schools talking with Principles and helping Partnering with them.
Are they at parks,with some of their own kids from their ministry talking building relationships with the community, are they at Police stations building relationships. You need to cover the bases of where your flock can end up, you need help in watching over the flock
Evangelism and discipleship and watching over the flock, when a person leaves the church, where did they go? Leave the 99 and go after the one.
I think you missed a big part of what Paul was speaking about. What Paul was talking about was SIN. What things in life do you have to beat your body. He was talking about controlling the flesh. the flesh is what causes us to sin. This is what Paul had to show, was not only the sacricice of some things, he also had to control and avoid sin.
You see as the biggest thing that causes our testimoney to be ruined is our lust for sin. You see we must beat our bodies into submission to God.
Loss of sleep, skipped meals, miss TV is not the things that need to be realized, are not the things that are what a Pastor should be really looking at as things he will miss.
A Pastor should always be looking at their actions, behaviors and decisions and ensure what they do or say in public, or in private if ever discovered would never ruin their testimoney.
The things instrad of what he will miss, should be showing the sin he or she avoids such as, Lieing, sexual perversion, Gossip, love of money, debt, cheating, deception.
A Pastos is judged much harsher because thier actions can cause the sheep to stray, and to also place God into a bad light.
The leader is the example, if you do not set the example in everything you do, then those areas of your life when discovered will ruin you.
Effective student ministry has not changed much in 20 years… Building relationships with students and training youth leaders to do the same has always been a true key to effective ministry.
On the topic of “TOOLS”. Tools themsevles never make anything better… It’s always the skill in how they are used.. Some tools draw students in, others help them connect with what is trying to be communicated.
Understanding the importance of relationship growth is the starting block in the race for a truly successful/effective student ministry.
I believe that when you surrender, you allow God to perfect the work that He has done in you. Surrendering allows us to truly experience just how His strength is made perfect in our weakness. We can walk according to His Will. It’s amazing how much happens when we simply surrender.
I believe that prayer is more effective and meaningful if you pray outloud, whenever possible … even just while walking around the house.
Great comments on prayer. I also want to share on how a ministry or even a church has a special annoiting on its ministries. I can recall several years ago attending a summer concert that featured The Brooklyn tabernacle choir in Ocean Grove NJ. We were early and decided to walk around the building. Suddenly as we walked by we heard thunderous prayers coming from this room. We asked someone who that was and were told that it was the Brooklyn Tabernacle praying before the concert. We never forgot this and we then concluded that this is why they have such an annoiting on their music projects.
Whenever I hear a Pastor teach about “Tithing” he usually mentions somewhere in his sermon about how hard it is for him to talk about tithing because of the reactions he gets from the congregation in general. We must never apologize for God’s Word in the area of tithing because when we do, we rob the people of God’s promise and Blessing.
The people that usually get upset about teaching on Tithing are the ones who do not Tithe or never knew that God said in the Bible “Do Not Rob God” and He will open up the windows of heaven and pour out a blessing on you that you could not contain.

Pastor Del, I would have liked to email you privately but unfortunately you do not have a published email address. Let me say first I enjoy the services at CLC. I was at the service today titled LaFamiglia and have heard this message preached many times before at other churches. Today’s sermon was for the wives. I would agree with most of what you spoke on EXCEPT when you said Christian people should stay and work out their marriage no matter what! You came close to saying even in abuse but only got out “abu…”and quickly moved on. You were speaking as the wife running down a list of all that the imaginary husband had done to her and you advised that they stay and pray for one another. I would agree that Christian people should seek God together when the marriage is in trouble EXCEPT in abuse. You did NOT give the disclaimer that in the case of abuse you should LEAVE and seek God while being safe! Seek God while keeping your children safe and out of the abusive situation. This is so important… some women do not want to do the wrong thing in the eyes of God and will stay with an abuser, especially if their pastor is saying so. You don’t want to have to live with a member being killed or their children being hurt because they heard you say to stay and seek God with the abuser. I’ve heard ministers say that very thing, that they don’t want to find out their advice or omission of “Leave to be safe” lead to the literal destruction of a family in their church. I am a third year med student and go to CLC. This Church has done amazing things for my life. I went from being a doubtful believer to a regular on Wed and Sunday services. GOD is great! GOD is the greatest healer and all things can be done through him. After attending the service this Wed and seeing everyone praying as one, I ALWAYS remember God can do anything. I am thankful to know GOD is in my life. I believe Pastor Chris will be healed and miracles are a daily occurrence in hospitals. Please read Gifted Hands by Ben Carson when you have some time. He is a top neurosurgeon in the world and most of all a believer. He practices at Johns Hopkins and is a great encouragement. Pastor Chris will be an encouragement for all and as I remember a few Wed’s ago she said in her introduction that through testimony we fight the devil.
I am a past member of CLC along with my wife Brenda simmons and my 4 children, Victoria,Mariah,Elijah,Jeremiah. WE now live in altoona pa and are members of New Life Community Church. I have a testimoy about Dan and Pastor Chris, myself and my wife worked at CLC and were blessed to have regular contact with Dan and Pastor Chris. Dan was my Boss and he was a teacher to me, many times as i look back i remember things that have brought me to my walk with GOD that i injoy today. Me and Dan were just driving down RT95 on our way to a church in the city we were helping with fixing up, He received a call from Pastor Chris while we were on our way back, his voice while talking to his Wife was like something out of a old romantic black ad white movie, He called her sweety and then Baby. I have not thought about that day for quite a while now but it has come back to me and another lesson has been tought to me from them and im 300 miles away. I will grow in my relationship with my wife brenda because of there lives once again.there are so many of these storys that i could tell But the only one that is important is the fact that i am a man of GOD walking and talking with him and about him most days all the time, some times i have to relax and realize some people are not ready for me to be so excited about GODS word, but i cant help myself,this is the TESTIMONY ME AND MY FAMILY ARE THE FRUIT THEY HAVE LEFT BEHIND I have a facebook page i use for reaching out to friends and family or who ever comes across it. we are all in deep prayer as well as fasting for GODS will to be done.when i have talked to people i am witnessing to i refer to Dan and Pastor Chris as ENERGIZER BUNNYS FOR GOD!!! I think seven words should be enough. Sometimes I just talk way too much. And people miss what I am saying. Better to talk less and listen more. Wow, this is not easy to do.

With much tears and sadness I send condolences to Dan and his family. Pastor Chris has blessed me very much with her counsel and prayers this pass June. She was a Powerful women of God and a inspiration to me. I will miss her very much.
Pastor Chris blessed my life by her example. A wonderful prayer warrior with a heart that desired nothing more than His presence. We have lost a great warrior but heaven has gained a great saint! I thank the Lord for the opportunity I had to have known her and work with her. We are praying for Dan and the CLC family.
It is a sad day at CLC and all of the other places on the earth that Pastor Chris ministered. What a wonderful example of what a christian is to be. Dan my thoughts and prayers are for you. Pastor Chris is in the presence of the King of Kings! She will certainly be missed by us all!

Pastor Chris shone with unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, and God has crowned her with great worth now that she is in his presence.
On Sunday, Pastor said we are to give thanks in the objectionable. Tonight, the Witman family gives thanks that we were blessed to know Pastor Chris and her ministry. We pray for Dan and her family and know that we will see her again in eternity.
Of course, there were many prayers,
From family, loved ones, friends,
“Please, dear Lord, a miracle,”
Was how each prayer began.
The prayers for her continued on,
“Please, dear Lord, a miracle.”
By now God knew their words by heart,
He, too, was sad . . . but merciful.
But then, as was predicted,
She gently slipped away,
What happened to the miracle,
For which so many prayed?
We know God heard his loved ones’ pleas,
Since He hears every powerful word,
And since she loved her Lord so much,
Why not a miracle for her?
Though she was prayed for day by day,
At her death, folks were distressed,
For they believed what was received,
Was not per their request.
Folks prayed that she be free of pain,
They prayed that she be well,
They prayed that she be fully healed,

Well, all their prayers were answered,
With results folks could not see.

My thoughts and many prayers are with Dan and his family at this very difficult time.
It was a great shock when I received the news about Pastor Chris’s passing, I am strenthened that she is in a better place. Pastor Chris has tremendously touched so many lives that are testimonies for her commitment to the LORD. Always with a beautiful smile, Pastor Chris would stop at anytime to a passer by to listen patiently to their prayer needs or testimonies! My condolences to Dan, may God strenthen him during this touch time!
Pastor Chris was a mentor, a teacher but most of all my friend. My heart is sad but in the end I rejoice in her glorious going home to be with the One she loves! I thank God for her godly influence by example and in prayers. We put our hope in the LORD now and forever! Kathy Heierbacher

When Ron was in the hospital back in March Pastor Chris called and prayed for him not knowing or having met him. Her prayer was quite the inspiration to both of us. Then when he came home she called again to follow up with him, her prayer reached heaven and has help Ron to heal and find his place in life again. She is a Godly woman and I know her reward is great. We will miss her.

The Witman family will miss Pastor Chris tremendously for her unselfish dedication in serving the Lord and how she touched many lives both inside and outside our church.
Pastor Chris was one of the first people who happily greeted and welcomed me to the church when I first attended CLC.
Patti and I were blessed by her and Dan’s Crown financial class.
When I informed a co-worker, who on occasion visits our church, about Pastor Chris, he informed me that when he had his heart attack, Pastor Chris prayed for him at his hospital bedside.
Dan, our family will keep you, yours and Pastor Chris’s family in our prayers that God will bless you with peace and strength as you grieve on the days ahead.
Pastor Del our prayers are also with you and your staff and our whole church for God’s strength and peace.
We are grateful to God for giving us the time we had known and been blessed by Pastor Chris and the assurance that because of our faith in Him, we will meet Pastor Chris again in heaven.

Our deepest sympathy goes out to you, for the loss of Pastor Chris was a complete shock. A wonderful woman, and a beautiful soul, she was always willing and always available to anyone who needed a loving touch and a tender voice. Pastor Chris was the first one to welcome me into CLC and helped me prepare for my baptism. We spoke just a few weeks ago about my taking online college courses and preparing me for ministry. She was such an inspiration to me and my entire family and although she is no longer with us physically, she will always be with us spiritually and in our hearts. I found a couple of poems that I thought were so fitting and I would like to share them with you. Again, we are so sorry for your loss and you are in our prayers.

Excellent reminder. It is lonely at the top of any organization. This was a greatly needed reminder of how God wants us to rely on him when in these situations.

OH – is that why I find that embracing the loneliness somehow hurts less when God and I are tight & hurts more when I’m less “connected” spiritually? I thot God was just enjoying keeping some type of fulfillment from me (altho my theology disagrees with that “feeling” of mine). I always knew that God wants more of me, but I keep getting that overwhelmed feeling & every time I feel prompted to step forward, I feel so encumbered by the weight of the responsibility. I guess I’ve always been so close to the others who are already paying & tend to automatically shut myself down as too weak comparatively. I’m sick now of my own excuses & want to rise up. My warrior spirit is poised and ready to rumble -but, I still tend to believe that if I were a team or somehow got hold of more support, I could really fly with confidence. I guess feeling like I’m alone in my call strikes my confidence back down to 2nd-guessing if I know what I’m talking about even when I’m very sure. Please pray for me that God will send the right opportunity to learn how to push past this final obstacle to finding what God has anointed me to do so I can do it on purpose & not just indirectly.
Actually that lonelyness is self created. If we look further into that chapter in Exodus It speaks that Moses went to the tent to be basicaly face to face with God, when Moses went there everyone knew what was going on. the all rose and awaited and watched as Moses went to speak with God, and when this happened a cloud appeared and the people in the community Worshiped God.
But also look at the reason that tent was pitched, anyone could go to that tent.
Please read Exodus Chapter 3 the whole thing.
When Moses was done, he returned back to the people.
You see Leaders today who isolate themselves, it is because of a matter of trust.
Jesus Got away to speak with the father, but he always returned. Even Jesus had relationships.
I find it hard to listen to someone speak about relationships, when the person speaking has very few true relationships.
We speak that we share the Gospel through relationships, but then have Pastors speak about loneliness and isolation,
This sounds kinda like an Oxymoron statement to me.
Leadership is lonely whether you have a million great, solid, heart-to-heart relationships, or you’re hated by everyone The “relationship” issue isn’t the point, but I understand what you’re alluding to.

I like your resolutions Pastor Del. My resolution is to get even closer with God and to continue to walk the path He leads me. My action steps are to continue reading the Bible in the mornings when I awake, and pray more in the Spirit.
